When you are discontent, you always want more, more, more. Your desire can never be satisfied. But when you practice contentment, you can say to yourself, 'Oh yes - I already have everything that I really need.’-Dalai lama

They once said, “Satisfaction is the key to happiness.” But should we need to follow? I always felt happiness depends on people and the things they value. It’s like wearing a dress, some exactly fits and some are wearable but don’t fit. And being happy determines whether we are satisfied with something or not.

Life is always full. It always has so many things in store for us. We always find a way to be unhappy. But finding a reason to be happy is always the main aim of everyone’s life. It’s all been set in our gene. We all are designed in such a way that we cannot stay sad all the time. We always want happiness. We always want to fill the gaps. Until the gap is filled, there is this uncomfortable feeling in our heart that won’t let us be happy. That gap could literally be anything. It could be your job, property, kids, family, hobby…anything. When you are not satisfied and there is the need for filling the gaps that are there, we start to want more and more of them. No matter how much we have, our desire to be happy will make us to crave more and more. That gap can’t be filled because the only thing that can fill is satisfaction which is not an easy process.

So what is satisfaction then? How many people in this earth are truly satisfied?

Satisfaction could be viewed in two ways: One is the way of attaining goals or wishes or wants and another is choosing to be happy with whatever we have.

Satisfaction through goals or wishes or wants:
When we achieve our goals we are so much excited about what’s going to happen next. As a kid I used to build castles of sand. When it was complete I used to be so happy but as soon as it’s build it collapsed and I used to be sad, but for a moment because as a kid we are don’t focus on one thing only. Satisfaction through goals could be a way to happiness but choosing your goal is important and we need be sure if it’s going to make us happy as long as we need to be.

Satisfaction through choosing not to choose anything at all:
If we are able to be happy as what we are and do not dwell upon our crazy needs but stay content on what we are and how we live then satisfaction is granted. It’s like living with the feeling of being alive with everything we need. ‘Not choosing anything’ means the ability to focus on life simply and nothing at all. It’s a way to ultimate satisfaction.

So how are you thing about being satisfied?
